Scaffold Plank Failure Investigation
Sharing our expertise to keep workers safe.
All scaffold planks will eventually fail. That's why all plank should be inspected and tested before and after each use. Planks showing signs of damage or degredation should be removed from service.
If you’ve had a plank fail unexpectedly despite rigorous testing, let the scaffold plank experts at Indian Mill Plank help you understand why. The goal of our investigation of scaffolding failure is to help you prevent similar failures from happening again.
Check out our training on the most common signs of damage and our recommendations on how to prevent them by clicking here. MCAA members may access the accompanying webinar on-demand for professional development credit through MCAA's website.
Here are some common causes of plank failure that we address in our training:
- Cracks or end splits
- Decay or rot
- Dents, depressions, holes, or notches
- Saw cuts/kerfs
- Warping, face splits, or face breaks
If you want additional help identifying the cause of your failure, take advantage of our in-house experts and testing resources. Select "Plank Failure Investigation" under Services on our quote request form and provide the requested details about your failure. Alternatively, you can give us a call to talk it over. Our staff will provide an estimate of the scope and cost for the scaffold plank failure investigation.
In many cases, our staff can identify a source of failure with a brief background of the circumstances and photos of the plank. In some situations, it may be necessary for our staff to have physical access to the plank.
